This game is similar to immersive roulette, with a few quirky differences such as two balls being used at the same time and a possible jackpot win that pays 1300-1!

In this double ball roulette guide we’re going to look at how the game works, the basic rules, payouts and basic strategy tips. We’ll also look at the pros and cons of this variant, so you can see if it’s worth a spin or two.

Just remember that the house will always have the edge. You should never try to recover losses by gambling more. The outcome of the games is always entirely based on luck.

Double Ball Roulette Rules

Double ball roulette is an innovative and fun live roulette variant introduced by Evolution Gaming. At the start of the game, you’re asked to place your bets and two balls are shot out of a tube around the roulette wheel.

The table layout is the same as when you play live roulette at PlayOJO, but with an additional betting area, where you can place bets for two balls to land on a selected number.

Double ball roulette is played on a European wheel, with only one zero and numbers ranging from 1-36. After the balls drop, losing chips are removed from the table and winning bets are paid.

Here’s an overview of the basic rules to be aware of:

  • Dealer asks you to place your bets (around 16 seconds)
  • Betting is closed and the two balls are dropped into the machine
  • Inside bets are placed on a number or a line between them
  • Inside bets win when one or both balls land on your chosen numbers
  • Payouts on inside bets are paid roughly half that of standard roulette. This is because 2 balls are in play and you have double the chance to win every spin
  • Bets placed on the boxes to the side and bottom of the numbered table are called outside bets
  • To win outside bets, both balls must land on numbers that satisfy the bet
  • The separate racetrack betting area allows you to place a chip on a number that you think both balls will land on
  • If you choose correctly, the dealer will pay the jackpot payout of 1300-1

Two balls get dropped into the double ball roulette machine attached to the wheel. Compressed air shoots the balls out through a tube, one after the other.

Because the balls are released with a concise time gap, they stay apart when rolling round the wheel, before they land into numbers.

What Are the Odds of Two Balls Landing in the Same Number?

While it is possible for both balls to land on the same number the chances of this happening are minimal.

The Jackpot bet has a house edge of around 5%, meaning it’s not a great bet for the player.

Take a look at the odds:

Two balls on a selected number: 1/37 x 1/37 = 1/1,369.

The inside bets (straight up, split, corner, lines) are usually a better way to go. They pay half what normal roulette pays, but you have two chances to win, from the two balls in play.

Double Ball Roulette Payouts

Double ball roulette odds and payouts take into consideration that there are two balls in the game. You can still place racetrack bets, such as Tier, Orphelins or Voisins Du Zero, but the extra kicker to this game is the second racetrack, where you can bet on two balls landing on a selected number.

Individual inside bets can be placed for both balls. For example, you can place an inside ‘’straight up’’ bet and a ‘’corner’’ bet where you can win one, or both.

However, if you bet on an outside bet such as ‘’black’’, both balls must land in any of the 18 black numbers for you to get paid. If only one ball lands in a black number and the other red, you lose your stake.

Basic Strategy and Tips for Double Ball Roulette

When learning how to play double ball roulette, there are a few tips and strategies you can use to enhance your gaming experience. These include:

Focus on Inside Bets with Better Odds

In double ball roulette, the outside bets are harder to win as both balls must land successfully to get paid. Conversely, the inside bets pay even if you land just one winning ball and have better payouts between 2/1 – 17/1.

So, a good strategy is to focus on inside bets such as corners and line bets. And, if both balls land in your chosen line bet section, the payout doubles to 4/1, making this an attractive option.

Be Careful with Progressive Strategies

Like previously mentioned, double ball roulette only pays outside bets when both balls land successfully, which means you may see losses more frequently if focusing on the outside.

And since progressive strategies like the Martingale System, are generally used on outside bets, you risk losing your bankroll quite quickly, as you’ll be doubling your wager after every loss.

Understand the House Edge and Bet Accordingly

The house edge for double ball roulette is the same as European roulette at 2.70%. However, since both balls need to hit to get outside bets paid, the odds are worse for the player, increasing the house advantage.

Betting on the jackpot bet of two balls landing in the same number has a house edge of 5%. And while the chance of winning 1,300 times your bet is appealing, this won’t happen easily. Therefore, it’s smart to play these bets sparingly.

Stay in Control of Your Bankroll

Live double ball roulette can be played 24 hours a day, every day and it can be easy to forget how long you’ve been at the table. It’s important to know your limits and follow responsible gaming guidelines, so you only play what you can afford.

Starting with low stakes is a great way to learn the game for beginners and allows fun play, the safe way. Because double ball roulette is a live casino game, you can’t play a demo game for free. But, with the minimum stake beingly only 20p, you can get a feel for the game without risking too much.

Know When to Walk Away

Having an exit strategy when playing at an online casino is one of the most important strategies to adhere to. Leaving at the right time can be the difference between ending your session a loser or winner.

Give yourself a win target and stick to it. While it can be tempting to ride that high and think you’re invincible when you’re on a winning streak, you risk giving it all back if you keep playing for too long.

Successful gamblers are risk takers, but they’re also disciplined.

Check Game Statistics, but Don’t Rely on Them

When playing live double ball roulette, you have access to a statistics tab in the bottom right hand corner of the screen. Here you can see a table showing the last 500 winning numbers from previous games. It also shows hot and cold numbers.

While some people believe in looking at the most common numbers in roulette, to guide their next bet, at the end of the day, roulette is a game of chance. All numbers have the same likelihood of winning and occasionally, some come up more often than others. Try not to focus too much on superstition around numbers and instead work on betting your chips wisely.
